This is the sorry state of many lives and in this post, I’d be sharing with you what the deliverance prayer is and how to get your freedom by praying it.
What is the Purpose of the Deliverance Prayer?
23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.
24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.
For everything under the sun, there is a time and a purpose to every season. Before this “and it came to pass” there was a “and it came to pass”. Then, it was, and it came to pass that there arose a Pharaoh who knew not Joseph. This was the beginning of bondage for the Israelites and their need for deliverance.
What this means in essence is that when you do not know Jesus, the one whom God the Father has chosen for all to know, saying “This is my beloved son, hear ye him” … when you refuse to know him, then, bondage is imminent. you have entered into all sorts of bondage because you have not and refused to know the Joseph (Jesus) that Pharaoh (God) has commanded you to know.
Essentially, the only reason for you to pray or receive deliverance prayers is when you’re in bondage. No matter how little that bondage may be, whether mentally, spiritually, emotionally, or financially, bondage is bondage and when you’re in one, the only reasonable thing to do is to seek deliverance. Either by praying for it or by asking one who is not in bondage to pray for you.
Not knowing Jesus, God’s Joseph, is to be in bondage. This is the origin of all bondages and there’s a need for deliverance. However, it is possible not to realize the need for deliverance until death happens. This death can come in various ways. In the text above, “it came to pass in the process of time that the king of Egypt died.”
The same king refused to know Joseph. Until death happens to the old nature you are born with, you will remain in bondage. You are most likely reading this because you have realized your need for deliverance and you need prayers. It means death has happened to you somewhere. It means there’s now a willingness to be free.
Before we begin to talk about the prayers for deliverance, it is of great necessity that you make amends where you have missed them. The first prayer you must pray to resolve the origin of your bondage is the prayer of repentance. This is the first deliverance prayer that will set you free from the wicked Egyptian king in your life who has not made you know Jesus, God’s Joseph.
Bow your head wherever you are, suspend whatever you are doing, and pray with faith in your heart, saying
“Dear God, I realise I have not been living a life that is pleasing to you. I have not known Jesus, your Joseph. I have been living a sinful life, a life of bondage. Now, God, I want to be free from this origin of bondage. I want to be free from sin. I repent from all my sins and today, confess them all. I will not go back to them for life” come into my heart and be the only king. I renounce the Egyptian king of myself. I accept you, Jesus, as the Lord of my life. I receive forgiveness for all my sins. I receive you and the power to become your son. In Jesus’ name. Amen”
Now that you have prayed that and you have received forgiveness and redemption.
Let’s dive further into what true deliverance prayer is and what it is not
“and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.”
Now, you’d notice that it was until the king of Egypt died they cried and God heard their cry. So far the king of Egypt is still alive in you, so far Jesus is not the king of my life and yours, no prayer will be heard by God. The death of the one ruling your life and mine, that is not Jesus, is the beginning of deliverance.
However, if you prayed that prayer earlier and you have made your peace with God, you can cry to God and God will pay close attention to your prayers. Even if you cannot cry to God, and someone else cries, God, will hear. If not so, even if a billion prophets burning with fire pray and intercede for you to be delivered. Your prayers will not be answered. Even if their prayers were answered, it would be short-lived.
You can ask Prophet Moses who interceded and pleaded many times on behalf of the sinful Israelites, God still destroyed them because they always sinned no matter the number of times they were delivered.
How To Find Freedom from Bondage through Deliverance Prayer: However, if you have made your peace, you can pray deliverance prayers. Also, true deliverance prayers are not just a combination of mere words. Very many times, it is a cry! Remember that man, Blind Bartimeus, had to cry more than once to Jesus before Jesus stopped and delivered him from his terrible blindness. Now, I hear you say you have cried before, but nothing happened… But look at the Israelites or even Bartimaeus, they cried for deliverance until even God couldn’t stand it anymore until he delivered them.
Now, because of the bondage God heard their cry. Bondage is reason enough to make God hear your cry and my cry. God when he created you, didn’t create you to be in bonds. He wants you and I
God will look upon you. He will cause his face to shine upon you. His attention will be on you and he will do whatever it takes to set you free from your bondage.
And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.
He will look upon you and respect you. There are very few people God respects. Although the scriptures say “God is no respecter of persons” The same scriptures say he respects those who cry, those who see their helplessness, and those who acknowledge they need His saving power.
He will respect you, just like he respected Abel and his offering. And you know the lengths he goes to for a man he respects, anything that happens to such a person, God will go the extra mile to see that such a person is preserved.
How does Deliverance Prayer Change one’s life?
24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
God will hear! God hears. You must believe that God hears and will hear your cry for deliverance. And when he hears, he can’t unhear your cry for deliverance he will remember not only the old covenant made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but the new covenant that he made with Jesus, who died on the cross of Calvary for you and me.
Thus, when he says, “Who the son of man sets free, he is free indeed.” He will indeed make you free, not temporarily, but forever. With the son of man, there’s not just freedom, but freedom indeed. If you aren’t praying deliverance prayers where you need deliverance from any kind of bondage, you assume God remembers that you need freedom.
Sometimes, you need to cry to God for him to remember and when He remembers, deliverance is yours.
What Action Should You Take with Deliverance Prayer at this Time?
1. Pray for it. Cry it!
Singing about deliverance will not get you delivered. Until you cry and your groan comes up to God. you will be delivered. If you refuse to pray, you are choosing to be in bondage and to remain in it. However, remember your prayers will only be acceptable if Jesus is the Lord of your life.
If not, your prayers will have no audience before God. Also, if you still engage in sin, forget it, your prayers are an abomination to God. What must you do to get your prayers coming up to God, confess and repent and God will show you mercy.
2. Humble yourself before God to cry
It takes a humble person to cry. You can never see a proud man crying. Scriptures say “If my people who are called by name humble themselves, and pray, I will hear from my holy heavens, I will forgive their sins and heal their land. God is both willing and ready to heal your land.
But so long you are proud and insincere, you are going to die in your bondage because God himself will also be against you in your bondage. He resists the proud. He abases the proud but gives grace to the humble.
3. Seek Prayers from those closer to God than you

4. Search the scriptures to know and understand what God has said about your deliverance
Scriptures say “My people perish for lack of knowledge.” You can rot in bondage if you don’t know accurately what God has said about your deliverance and freedom. Even if you know you need freedom, you must be able to understand from God’s perspective what deliverance truly is. God’s definition of freedom is what you want to have.
